The first baby tooth to be lost is usually the lower front teeth. This occurs between 5 to 6 years old. Parents and kids get excited because they know if the kids place their baby teeth under the pillow then the Tooth Fairy will come and leave them some money in exchange for the tooth. But the question is … how much money? What’s the going rate? There was actually a poll sponsored by Delta Dental Plans Association. The average was $4.36.
I remember when I was a kid I used to get $1.00 for each tooth. I was so excited because it was a brand new, never creased or wrinkled dollar bill. It even smelled new. I really cherished the tooth fairy gift. A dollar went such a long way back then.
There are 20 baby teeth which will all be lost by the age of 11. I encourage all parents to save up all those brand new crisp 5 dollar bills and have them ready for their kids. The tooth fairy is coming!
