Shaquille O’Neal Has Sleep Apnea. Do you?

Interesting video about Shaquille O’Neal being diagnosed with sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea can be treated with a CPAP breathing machine, an oral sleep mouthpiece similar to a night guard, or surgery to remove some of the excess tissue blocking the airway.

For people who cannot tolerate the CPAP, then the mouthpiece is a good alternative. Personally, I have also been tested for sleep apnea and have moderate sleep apnea. I have chosen to wear the sleep mouthpiece. I made impressions of my teeth and a special bite registration so that the lab cannot relate my upper and lower jaws.

Then I sent my models to Somnodent to make a Somnodent MAS. I now wear it nightly and my wife loves it because I no longer snore. My airway remains open and I breath easier through the night. My sleep is better and I feel like I got more rest. If you or your spouse snore and/or feel tired during the day even though you slept enough hours, it may be time to get a sleep study to determine if you have sleep apnea.

Our office has an ARES sleep test machine which you can rent to test yourself at home. Call our office for more information.
